Position Overview

Ones Up is a community centered organization. We prioritize building strong relationships with the youth, their families, and within our team. Creating a culture around strong team dynamics, where people can show up as their best selves is critical to our work.

Initially, this role will look like:

Relationship building. This means getting acquainted with each other as staff, learning each other’s skills, interests, strengths, and aspirations. You’ll get to know Ones Up youth through regularly scheduled events, drop-ins, and alumni updates shared during staff meetings. By acting as support during programming hours, you will be introduced to the Ones Up pedagogy, how we approach thematic learning, and our framework for creating holistic and engaging lessons.

Youth programming kicks off in February 2024 with the second cohort of the Ones Up Community Action Team, a 6-month after-school career readiness program. You will start by learning through observation, being present throughout programming and assisting youth during activities. Relationship building is key during this phase. After 2-3 weeks of observation, you can expect to begin facilitating and co-facilitating activities for a group of 10-15 youth.

Your overarching objective will be to deliver content that teaches important life skills and promotes professional and academic success while being responsive to the observed and expressed needs of the youth.  Along with teaching you will be working to prepare youth to collaborate around a final community project. This project acts as a service learning opportunity where they learn to assess community needs, explore design thinking, gain a sense of their leadership potential, and co-create with youth and partners.
